The Single Greatest Invention Ever is Sleep/Pillows/Beds/Mattresses/Blankets/Comforters/`and Sheets

And anything else connected with beds.

I love sleep.
I love pillows.
I love beds.
I love mattresses.
I love blankets.
I love comforters.
I love sheets.
I love anything connected with comfort and sleep.

I love all of the things on the list so much, that in my mind they each deserve their own "Single Greatest Invention Ever", but time is fleeting. And your patience could hardly be expected to last.

Where this fondness might have begun:
I don't have a teddy bear, but I do have a cuddle blanket. And I think it is safe to say, that my cuddle blanket and I will never be parted.
Growing up, we all received one cuddle blanket, the real name is something weird sounding, so Mom called them cuddle blankets, and now so do all of us kids. Anyway, we all had a cuddle blanket that was our own. The coolest thing about these blankets is that they were real size blankets. All the other kids had baby blankets, and small sleeping bags, but we had our big cuddle blankets. I remember, one time wondering how old I would have to be for my forehead to be at the end of one blanket and my feet touching the other end (14), I couldn't imagine that day ever coming because the blanket was so huge.
When we went on trips, I took my blanket. I can vividly remember the first time RuthAnn showed me how to stuff my blanket into my pillow case for easy carrying. I still do that today. When you got into the big van, which was often very cold, the first thing you did was pull out the blanket from your pillow case, wrap it around you, and promptly fall back asleep for the next 41 minutes, or until you got to church. You needed that blanket. Your cuddle blanket was always there for you, from long days at church, to scary movies, to really any type of movie, to when you were sick, to when you were traveling, to when you were sleeping. I love my blanket.

Sleep:
Is the greatest thing ever. During the school year, I get annoyed with my body telling me to sleep, but then when I do sleep, I remember how blessedly wonderful it is. The main problem with sleep is that there are so many different ways to do it, and each of them is uniquely wonderful. Here are just a few, even though I'm sure you have your own.
1. You can stay up really late, and then fall gratefully into bed, and fall quickly asleep.
2. You can stay up late, and then fall into bed, and gradually fall asleep.
3. You can go to bed early, and lay there thinking over your day, and slowly fall asleep.
4. You can go to bed early, read until everyone is sleeping, and then go downstairs, get a midnight snack, go back upstairs and fall asleep.
5. You can go to bed late, read until everyone is sleeping, go downstairs, get a midnight snack, go back upstairs, and read until you hear people waking up, and then go to sleep.
6. You can fall asleep on the couch watching TV, crawl into bed quietly, and fall deeply asleep.
7. You can go to bed, watch a movie, start another one, fall asleep, turn off the movie, fall asleep, and then wake up early to finish the movie.
8. You can spend a restless night sleeping, which is actually fun in it's own way, because then you're aware of time passing, and how beautiful the sleep that you usually enjoy is.
9. You can go to bed early. Set your alarm for midnight. Wake up, go downstairs, get food, and watch a movie (or movies), wait until it is almost light, and go fall back asleep. Note: This option is best done if you took a nap, and is therefore only available on very few occasions. You need to come home immediately from work, go to sleep, and have nothing going on the day after. A Friday, to Saturday works well. This option is also best if you've planned it so you wake up on Saturday just in time for a shower and College football. There is no better day. I also should mention that if you're living with someone else, you should invite them to join you, since this plan is entirely selfish. If you're living by yourself, you don't have to worry about that.

Pillows:
I currently have 5 on my bed, and they are not decorator pillows. I cannot abide decorator pillows. My pillows are all full size. I have 4 regular, full size pillows, and 1 body pillow. I love all of my pillows deeply, and each one is special. How people treat their pillows carelessly is something that I will never understand. Your pillow is one of the most important items you will ever own. Cherish it. Love it. Appreciate it.

Beds:
Are really cool. Bed frames are awesome. I can't wait until I have a home that I can pick out my bed frame. I can see it in my mind. It's going to be awesome.
If by some chance, I have made enough money that I can buy the floating bed, I will of course do that. (If by some chance you haven't seen the floating bed, e-mail me and I'll send you the link)

Mattresses:
Are desperately important. The mattress store is one of the happiest places in the world. So many options, and they all feel so good. When we were redoing my room, I got to pick out my mattress. It was one of the greatest decisions of my life.

Blankets:
And you thought the cuddle blanket thing was enough. Blankets are highly important choices. Weight, wash-ability, color, texture, tags are all things that have to be considered. You are a crazy person if you just walk into a store and buy the cheapest blanket. You have no idea what you're missing.

Comforters:
I have a beautiful comforter, which I love more than life itself. It's perfect. I don't know if I could ever top it, but I do know that I'll probably try. The comforter is such an important decision. Weight is the key factor in the comforter decision. And move-ability. By that I mean, if you kick it does it fall to the floor immediately? A good comforter holds on through kicks, and shifts. It moves to a side of the bed if you don't need it, but it's always there for you when you reach for it.

Sheets:
Don't ever buy cheap sheets. You don't have any idea what you're missing. Sheets are a genuinely hard decision, one which needs to be carefully made and with much thought. Each person is different when it comes to sheets, but when you do find the perfect set of sheets, always buy two sets. Always. They discontinue sheets regularly, and then you can replace your sheets immediately with clean ones when you go to throw in your weekly sheet load. I do hope you have a weekly sheet load.
