Paul Newman 1925 - 2008

One of the greatest actors ever died yesterday.

One of the most beautiful men ever died yesterday.

One of the most philanthropic men ever died yesterday.

If you've ever seen good movies, you know who he is.

If you've ever watched phenomenal movies, you know who he is.

If you've ever seen slightly stupid movies (let's just be honest), you know who he is.

Paul Newman died yesterday.

Paul Newman has starred in some of the greatest movies ever made. Here is a list of the movies that he is most famous for, how many have you seen?

The Long Hot Summer

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Cool Hand Luke

The Hustler

The Sting

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

The Color of Money

Hud

Absence of Malice

Nobody's Fool

The Verdict

Road to Perdition

Paul Newman: The Man

I. Blue Eyes

Paul Newman is most famous for his incredibly blue eyes. And if you've ever watched him in anything, you know why. His eyes are completely inescapable.
Newman always laughed when people would talk about his eyes. He once said that he could envision these words on his tombstone, "Here lies Paul Newman, who died a failure because his eyes turned brown."

II. Marriage

He met Joanne Woodward on the set of "The Long Hot Summer" and they married shortly after that in 1928. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in January. He took a famous monogamous stance about marriage. "Playboy" once asked him in an interview what he did about the temptation to stray and Newman's famous response was, "Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home?"

III. Philanthropy

Towards the end of his acting career, Paul Newman started "Newmans Own". Which started with salad dressing, and has since expanded to include salsa, popcorn and lemonade. Newman took the stance that all proceeds after taxes would go to charity. The last numbers released (2006) showed that they had donated upwards of 200 million. Newman also started the "Hole in the Wall" camps in 1988. These camps are for seriously ill children. The camps have expanded to around the world, and they serve 13,000 children every year, free of charge.

Paul Newman: The Pictures

You didn't expect me not to give you any pictures, now did you?
There is one picture with him and Elizabeth Taylor in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", but all the other pictures are of him and Woodward.

He will be missed.

Oh the stories I could tell.....

I have really, really missed you. I got so used to writing in you at least once a week over the summer, and sometime every day. But school has taken all my time.

So, since I have no time I'm going to give you just the headlines of my life. Maybe that will tide you, and me over until I get a chance to actually talk to you. But this is the best I can do for now.

-to be read in the exciting voice of Colbert on his "tonight" list (if you don't know what I mean, just ask me. I'll imitate it for you)-

1. It's lifetime fitness at 7:20 in the morning. Will friends be made closer, or will they pull away? And what is Mr. Pill like when he's tired?

2. How long can you make your nylons last? Tips coming soon.

3. Weekly Dorm Society chapel? What good is it doing? We ask these hard questions and more to the person who came up with them, and we find, surprisingly enough, that he knows absolutely nothing.

4. Can you teach someone your job with only 2 hours every morning for one week? Do you know what are the most important aspects of your life? Learn how tonight.

5. Why does Joanna always have to stand behind the "political idiots" in the lunch line? Her reactions? And more interestingly, their reactions to her reactions?

6. Have a professor that can't finish reading the sentence before they pull completely the wrong conclusion out of it? How about one who tries to pull the strangest "truths" out of nothing? How about a professor that gets annoyed by questions? Or, how about one that does all three? You're in luck! I have one too. Let's compare notes, or painful groans.

7. When did democrat become a bad word? And no, I am NOT interested in joining your republican club. EVER.

8. What's the "Fundamentalism Fashion Faux Pas" for the day? Boys who consider themselves to be good dressers, and the girls who love them. Only problem? Their shoes are horribly unfashionable. You lose it with the shoes men, every single time. You're losing because of your shoes.

9. How to survive on little sleep. For the rest of your college career. Because trust me, you're never, ever going to get any again.

10. And through all of this, how to really, genuinely, completely enjoy yourself. Come on, it's college.

Have to run. I miss you. I'll try to fill you on on everything later. Don't worry about me, I'm doing just great - you may, however, want to worry about everyone else.

I only have a few words

I bought 93 books.

For $19.50

That is basically the coolest thing on the planet.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

And there were books

I don't have much time.

But I just wanted to share this beautiful day with you.

It's the beginning of the book sale today, and I actually have money to spend on books!
That sentence has put such joy in my heart. I'm so happy. I haven't been able to stop smiling all day.

Books, books, books are going to be there for me.
I'm going to buy books, pretty books, cheap books, fun books, awesome books, horrific books, perfect books, and I'm going to bring them home. And they're going to be mine. All mine.

Now all I have to do is figure out where I can put them.

In Matt Cassel we trust

That's really all I have to say.

I'm also really happy he beat Favre.

I'm really happy that Rodgers played well again.

And I'm really happy that we're 2-0.

Without Brady.

In Matt Cassel we trust.

It could not possibly get better than this...

We threw RuthAnn a surprise party last night, which we managed to actually surprise her with.

I watched a movie late last night.

I slept in.

I did interesting homework, and managed to get the uninteresting homework done too.

I went to get Taco Bell in James Dean.

I brought my Taco Bell home and watched College football.

I took a short nap.

I worked on my list. (I have a lot more to go)

I got a back rub.

I watched a lot of College football. And let me just say, nothing is more exciting than College football.

Life is good.

Brady's not a nice person

I understand that.

But he is a great quarterback.
I mean he is a really, really good quarterback.

And now he's gone. For the whole season.

It happened too fast, I didn't even get to watch him in action, and now he's gone.

My life is over.

I'm ready to stand behind Matt Cassel in all that he is going to be expected to do. And I wish him luck. He has a great team behind him, and I hope he does well.

But I miss Tom Brady.

New England Patriots, we love you. Go Patriots.

IT'S HERE!

You should know how I feel about all caps. (If you don't, here's a clue, I despise them.)

But this warrants all caps.
If I was speaking to you, I would be yelling at you.
If I was standing next to you, I would drop this in the conversation.
If I was walking past you, I would be smiling because I'm thinking about this.

I only have One More Day until my football is here. I would have posted this tomorrow, but between school, work and football, there will be no time for any of that.

After 213 long, long days. My football is finally here. My happiness is finally here. My joy is finally here. My life is finally here. My Patriots are finally here.

I'm so ready. I want to sit and watch. I want to yell, and groan. I want to hear the commentators. I want to eat football food. I want to feel like I should go to bed, and then not go to bed. I want to see beautiful runs. I want to see mind-blowing throws. I want to see gorgeous sacks. I want to see defensive lines hold, and give. I want to see offensive lines protect, and fail. I want to see quarterbacks, safety's, wide receivers, linebackers, punters, returners, special teams, running backs, centers, and offensive guards.

And most of all I want to see the New England Patriots win.

I'm so glad it's back.

I want to cry.
