One of the greatest actors ever died yesterday.

One of the most beautiful men ever died yesterday.

One of the most philanthropic men ever died yesterday.

If you've ever seen good movies, you know who he is.

If you've ever watched phenomenal movies, you know who he is.

If you've ever seen slightly stupid movies (let's just be honest), you know who he is.

The Verdict

Paul Newman: The Man

I. Blue Eyes

Paul Newman is most famous for his incredibly blue eyes. And if you've ever watched him in anything, you know why. His eyes are completely inescapable.
Newman always laughed when people would talk about his eyes. He once said that he could envision these words on his tombstone, "Here lies Paul Newman, who died a failure because his eyes turned brown."

II. Marriage

He met Joanne Woodward on the set of "The Long Hot Summer" and they married shortly after that in 1928. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in January. He took a famous monogamous stance about marriage. "Playboy" once asked him in an interview what he did about the temptation to stray and Newman's famous response was, "Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home?"

III. Philanthropy

Towards the end of his acting career, Paul Newman started "Newmans Own". Which started with salad dressing, and has since expanded to include salsa, popcorn and lemonade. Newman took the stance that all proceeds after taxes would go to charity. The last numbers released (2006) showed that they had donated upwards of 200 million. Newman also started the "Hole in the Wall" camps in 1988. These camps are for seriously ill children. The camps have expanded to around the world, and they serve 13,000 children every year, free of charge.

Paul Newman: The Pictures

You didn't expect me not to give you any pictures, now did you?
There is one picture with him and Elizabeth Taylor in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", but all the other pictures are of him and Woodward.

He will be missed.
