"Last night, I dreamt I went to Manderly."
I am intensely fond of this movie.

As a book, it is one of the best novels ever written.
As a movie, it is one of the best ever made.

It stars Joan Fontaine, Lawrence Olivier, and Judith Anderson. Alfred Hitchcock directs.
It is the only Alfred Hitchcock movie to have ever won "Best Picture".
If at this moment, you aren't dying to see this movie I will never understand you, and I never want to.

Judith Anderson turns in an unbelievably scary performance as Mrs. Danvers.

Lawrence Olivier and Joan Fontaine are so incredible, that you can't take your eyes off either of them for a moment. You would think this would create a problem for their scenes together, but inexplicably it doesn't.

I'm not going to tell you the story. You should know it. If you've never read the book, you're missing one of the greatest novels of all time. I want you to both watch the movie and read the book that I can't decide which you should do first.
Alright, I've made up my mind. Read the book, always read the book first. But then watch the movie.
All you need to know about the plot is that you're going to feel intensely sorry for someone whose name you don't even know.
Joan Fontaine plays this part so well.

Alfred Hitchcock chose not to use color for this film. He said he couldn't imagine it in anything but black and white.
We couldn't agree more.

Go. Read. Watch.

Enjoy.
I love this movie! In fact, I enjoy all of Hitchock's films that I have seen. My mom just read the book "Rebecca." I will next. Hope you are having a good summer!
