I really don't know why anyone would not want to see this movie. You should want to see this movie, and then you should go and actually see this movie.
Johnny Depp, Mary Stuart Masterson, Aidan Quinn, and Julianne Moore are the people that bring this story to life.

The overall story line is not really the reason you should watch this movie, but here's the quick synopsis:
Mary Stuart Masterson is really crazy.
Depp is slightly crazy.
Aidan Quinn is sane.
Julianne Moore is a bad horror movie star.
Do you really need any more reason than that?
Depp is really quite phenomenal in this film, he did it right after "Edward Scissorhands"
Ebert says about Depp, "If I had been reading the screenplay of "Benny and Joon," I would have started to form ominous misgivings at about this point, since the conceit of bringing a character like Sam into the story seems a little too precious. But Depp pulls it off. In "Edward Scissorhands" he demonstrated two of the skills that are crucial to his performance in "Benny and Joon": He was able to build an essentially wordless performance out of expression and gesture, and he had natural physical grace."

Depp is lovable, but he really is only 1/3 of this movie (It's just really easy to find pictures of him)
I don't have much else to say, except what I always seem to be saying to you: "Go watch the movie."

Also, how are you not dying to find out how the quote, "Having a Boo Radley moment, are we?" fits in?
